About Miss Wrench
Miss Wrench is a workbench of small diagnostic tools for people who look after a website, a domain or a mailbox and would like to know what’s really going on in there. Every tool runs a real check, then explains the idea behind the result. We bother with the second part because a red mark by itself is only good for worrying. Once you know why it’s red, you can go and fix it.
How the checks run
Some tools ask our server to look at a public address for you: fetch a page, open a TLS connection, query DNS. Others do all their work in your browser, which is where anything personal belongs (a password, a photo, a mailing list, the text of an email). Each tool page tells you which kind it is.
What it costs
Nothing, and you don’t need an account. The one limit is a few dozen checks per hour, per tool, from the same connection. That keeps the server standing for everybody else.
Accuracy
Our checks look at your setup from the outside, like any stranger on the internet could. They can’t see into your hosting account, your mail provider or your firewall, so a clean result isn’t a security audit. If a result surprises you, the explanation underneath says how we got there and you can check it yourself.
